Cleanings & Prevention

Cleanings and Preventive Services in Houston

Visiting the dentist every six months is an imperative aspect of your oral healthcare. Regular checkups, professional cleanings, and proper at-home dental maintenance are absolutely essential to the health of your teeth and gums. The courteous and professional staff at Brite Dental Center wholly support this preventive approach to reaching optimal oral health.

Regular and thorough at-home dental care is extremely important to your dental health. While a cleaning routine at home may effectively remove the plaque from your teeth, it is no substitute for the consistent professional dental cleanings offered by Supritha Hangal, DDS. During these treatments, Dr. Hangal can remove any tartar buildup left untouched by your dental regimen as well as identify potential problem spots.

Routine Dental Visits are Essential

At Brite Dental Center in Houston, our routine dental visits consist of two parts:  a professional teeth cleaning and a thorough checkup. Each is an important element in preserving the overall health of your teeth and mouth.

While most patients benefit from a routine office visit every six months, some patients will require more frequent visits to properly maintain their dental health and ward off potential problems.

Experience the Professional Cleaning Difference

Adequate at-home dental cleaning and care are a great start to clean and healthy teeth, but inevitably tartar will build up around the teeth and gums. Tartar is a calcified deposit that forms on the teeth and contributes to decay and disease.

When you visit Brite Dental Center for your cleaning, the hygienist will remove any and all tartar deposits. Your teeth are then polished using a special device to remove surface stains. We also carefully floss out all debris and particles that have accumulated between your teeth.

What Happens in a Checkup?

During the checkup portion of your dental visit, the dentist thoroughly examines your mouth and teeth for signs of problematic developments. Tartar, cavities, infection, oral cancer, and gum disease are all searched for in your exam. Preventive medicine will help detect problems early and watch for hereditary concerns or effects of diabetes, high blood pressure, or medicinal side-effects.

At your visit, we’ll also examine your gums for signs of gum disease and track results as part of our early detection procedures. We use a tool to measure the space between your gums and teeth. When gum disease progresses, pockets can develop between the teeth and gums, which we check for at every routine exam. The dentist will also examine your throat and tongue, and check your face, head, and neck for abnormalities and inflammation.

Depending on your needs, we may also take x-rays, or provide sealants or fluoride treatment. We recognize that all our patients are individuals with unique dental health needs.
